Adult Volunteers

Adult Volunteer vs Junior Crew

To no longer be considered a Junior Crew but as an adult volunteer, you must:

be over 21 years old

complete VIRTUS Protecting Youth training through the diocese

How Can I Volunteer?

Adult Crew Member

Each small group of 12 high school students is led by 2–3 adults (age 21+) and 3–4 college-age young adults. These groups work together during the day and participate in activities at night. New volunteers are always paired with seasoned leaders.

Adult crew leaders are responsible for worksite safety and ensuring the work gets done. Since high school students are not permitted on extension ladders, adults and college leaders handle all "up high" work — though not every site requires ladder work.

Driver

Our adult drivers' main role is to shuttle participants to the worksite in the mornings, to shower locations in the afternoon, and back to the parish after participants are finished showering. Depending on the year, we may also need drivers to help transport participants to and from our social night activity if it doesn't take place on the parish campus.

This is an easy way to volunteer your time if you can't commit to helping lead a crew.

All Junior Crew and adult crew leaders are required to attend the Sunday Meeting — held the Sunday before the project begins. Directors use this time to brief all leaders on how the project will operate for the current year.

If you have a conflict with this meeting, please contact us as soon as possible.

VIRTUS Training

All adult volunteers must complete safe environment training through the Diocese of Toledo. This is non-negotiable and must be renewed every five years. Training includes:

  • An online background check ($25)

  • The video series Protecting God's Children and Vulnerable Adults

Register or renew at: Diocese of Toledo VIRTUS Registration

If you have questions about whether you are due for renewal, please check the VIRTUS website or contact us.
